2 Food Additives You Should Watch Out For

Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG):
Is a flavor enhancer present in Chinese and other Asian Cuisines but nowadays can regularly be found widespread on most canned foods, processed foods and restaurants. It gives that rich savory flavor also called 'umami' which is thought about the 5th primary taste aside from sweet, sour, salty and bitter and has been used as a food additive for plenty of years since its invention in 1908 by a Japanese man named Kikunae Ikeda.
Ikeda could identify this type of naturally occurring amino acid glutamate originally from seaweed extracts then partnering with Ajinomoto (which is now the world's largest producer of MSG) went on to start promotion this product. The ingredient became widely available in the U.S. only by the finish of World War II and beginning 1959 became publicly available when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration labelled it as Usually Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for human consumption.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

This is a synthetic artificial calorie providing sweetener used as a replacement to sucrose (table sugar). It is widely being used as a sweetener in processed foods, store bought foods such as jams, ice creams, yogurts, cereals, bread, condiments, etc. and also in numerous drinks such as sodas and fruit flavored drinks.

It is far from being 'natural' wherein the glucose syrup is extracted from corn in a secret technique. The sugards then are extracted from the glucose syrup through a enzymatic technique.
